After discovering her passion for psychology, mental health and disability in high-school, Alannah began her journey in 2009, studying a Bachelor of Psychological Science at the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne.
Through this experience, Alannah fell in love with the counselling aspect of the course where the relationship with the client is first and foremost at the centre of therapy. After having her first child in 2015, Alannah commenced her post graduate studies in Counselling and is currently completing her Graduate Diploma of Counselling through the Australian College of Applied Psychology. Alannah embraces a humanistic philosophy where she believes clients hold the power and the answers within the therapeutic process and views her role as a caring and genuine facilitator in the client’s journey. Along with this, Alannah has a keen interest in working within a strength-based approach, drawing focus to the unique make up of character strengths of each client.
In 2018 Alannah began her work at a nearby primary school in their student wellbeing office, offering wellbeing support to students and their families. Alannah’s passion for working with children and families has only strengthened through this position and led her to complete her Certificate in Play Therapy Studies through the Centre for Play Therapy. Alannah’s position at the school has highlighted the strong need child therapeutic support in Victoria. Alannah is passionate about working with younger children, holding the belief that intervention as early as possible is key to improving the mental health and wellbeing of children which in turn allows children to reach their full potential.
Alannah is extremely excited for her opportunity to work for the Centre for Play Therapy, as the first therapist in Victoria. Alannah feels extremely privileged to be given the opportunity to work together with families, endeavouring to be able to make positive impact within their lives.
