Sharon is a qualified Social Worker with an extensive background in working with children and their families, coming from a vast array of backgrounds and have experienced trauma and/or disadvantage through complex and multiple needs.
Sharon completed both her undergraduate and post graduate degrees at the University of Queensland in Brisbane where she commenced work in supporting and assisting children and their families to improve their circumstances through a number of roles. She values the importance of professional development and growth and has completed many post graduate workshops and training.
Some of Sharon’s previous roles in South-East Queensland have included working in the Foster and Kinship sector, working in Queensland Health providing counselling for children who had experienced sexual assault, and working with young people who were expecting a child of their own. She then provided long term therapeutic case management, support and crisis work for families at risk of entering the Child Protection system in the Non Government sector.
Sharon was born and raised in Central Queensland and decided to relocate to the area in recent years to continue her work within the regions where she first gained her passion and interest to work with vulnerable children and their families. Most recently she was employed within roles both alongside Child Safety and the Non Government sector, assisting and connecting families with local support services, information and education to help improve family circumstances where possible. During this time she completed her Certificate of Play Therapy Studies which has eventually lead to her employment within Centre for Play Therapy Gladstone.
Sharon’s approach to working with families is non-judgemental, client centred, strength based, trauma informed and solution focused. She values the importance of working alongside families, early intervention, and allowing children to realise and develop their own strengths and capabilities specifically through Non-Directive Play Therapy.
